Despite the very tight budget, we tried to integrate some design features to elevate a normal hatchery and creating a functional and practical space for the users. The facade is an expanded metal mesh and designed with fish scale patterns. Turf cell facade at the exterior acts as sun shading and can be utilised for aquaponics purpose (fertilisers produced from fish waste can be used for the creepers and the plants in the planter box). There is also water harvesting system and solar lighting for hatchery compound to reduce electricity usage. Instead of using normal brick and concrete construction, we use modified containers for ancillary spaces such as office, toilets, utility room. Platform at the top acts as a multifunction area for discussions, meetings, classes, demos etc.
